Steam Train Trips on the West Somerset Railway

Sit back, relax and enjoy stunning countryside on steam train trips through Somerset.

The West Somerset Railway is the longest standard gauge Heritage Railway in England. It runs 21 miles through beautiful countryside, taking in parts of the Bristol Channel coast.

These steam train trips can incorporate up to 10 picturesque stations from Bishops Lydeard, near Taunton to the seaside town of Minehead on the Somerset coast.

There are over half a dozen steam locomotives that are based on or are associated with the West Somerset Railway. However, due to ongoing maintenance, all the locomotives may not all be in service at the same time. You can read about each individual steam locomotive here.

Refreshments on board these steam train trips includes hot and cold drinks and snacks which can be purchased from the buffet car. Packed lunches are also available, but it’s worth booking these in advance.

Discounted Steam Train Trips for hotel guests

Guests staying at the Swan Hotel are entitled to a discount off the normal ticket price. Hotel residents pay £11 for a single ticket (normally £12) and just £16 for a return (normally £20)
