Each year, Wells Cathedral organise an outstanding selection of musical concerts and 2020 promises to be no exception.

Some of the highlights include:

Friday 24 January 2020 – Promenade Concert Opus Anglicanum

Opus Anglicanum returns to Wells to present their much loved feast of Candlemas chant performed in the magical candlelit setting of the chair free nave – but with a difference. For example, improviser extraordinaire Jason Rebello at the grand piano, weaves a unique and spontaneous spell around the ancient chants.

Sunday 28 March 2020 – Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society Mozart Requiem

The programme will include Haydn’s London Symphony and Insanae et vanae curae alongside Mozart’s monumental Requiem

Summer Concert

Saturday 25 July 2020 – Somerset Chamber Choir, Mozart: Great Mass in C Minor

The choir will perform two majestic masterpieces; Mozart’s Great Mass in C Minor and Mendelssohn’s Psalm 95. However, the choir is joined by one of the UK’s most distinguished chamber ensembles, Southern Sinfonia and an exceptional line up of young soloists.

Friday 4 September 2020 – The Sixteen: The Choral Pilgrimage 2020, The Call of Rome
The Sixteen present some of the finest music written for the Sistine Chapel with works by Josquin and Felice Anerio framed by Victoria’s powerful Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Saturday and culminating in arguably the most famous choral work of all time, Allegri’s Miserere

Autumn Concert

Monday 12 October 2020 Aled Jones in Concert
Aled embarks on a UK-wide tour, performing at many of the nation’s best loved Cathedrals. In other words, this is a concert not to be missed!

Tickets are priced between £25 and £35 and are available from Ticketmaster

Periodically, visiting choirs also come to give informal concerts in the Quire at lunchtime where the admission is free. These choirs come from the USA, Canada, Australia, Russia, Continental Europe as well as the UK. They normally start just after 1pm and last for approximately 45 minutes.
